Volunteer at In-Class Workshops
Windows and Mirrors Workshops are Purple below
BtB invites you to join our community of young scholars and educators as a classmate for the day, exploring literature through windows and mirrors. “Windows” give you insight into other people's perspective and “mirrors” give you the opportunity to see your own experiences reflected in others. For 60 to 75 minutes, students and volunteers alike will harness that kinship to expand their understanding of the ways in which we each experience our world. But the impact does not end there! When adults participate alongside them, students not only see that the value of learning extends beyond grades, but also feel more confident in the classroom when they realize that not even adults have all the answers.
Thought Partners Workshops are Pink below
Provide thought partnership to our emerging authors who need support getting their thoughts down on paper, constructing sentences, crafting a story, or an argument. Volunteers will support students in finding their own ideas, either one-on-one or in small groups for 60 to 75 minutes. Learning can be daunting, but individualized attention and affirmation is an important tool in fostering intrinsically motivated young people who trust in their abilities and welcome new challenges. If some or all of the BOD is interested in securing their own Thought Partners Workshop, please email volunteer@behindthebook.org
