Her first book, Bending Heaven, is a short story collection, which the New York Times praised as “that rarest of debut collections: grounded but thoughtful, learned without being pretentious. [S]tories take place in what feels like Lorrie Moore and Alice Munro country....” Her stories have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and have appeared in Granta, McSweeney’s, and Virginia Quarterly Review, among other publications. She is a recipient of the Lawrence Foundation Prize and has received fellowships from the MacDowell Colony and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
