Statement of Policy of Non-Discrimination

Behind the Book operates by policy and practice without discrimination based on age, race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual preference, disability, economic status, cultural heritage, or national origin, as well as other classifications protected by applicable state or local laws. This holds for all respects of our operations, including services to people, selection of board, employment of staff and volunteers, and purchase of supplies. Behind the Book complies with all provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act.



Privacy Policy:

This website was created to complement the Behind the Book not-for-profit visiting authors program in the New York City public schools. As our website is designed with primary and secondary students in mind, we are especially mindful of the privacy concerns of our young visitors and their parents. This Privacy Policy explains the way we gather and use any personal information (names, e-mail addresses, etc.) that we collect on our website.



Passive Information

In addition to collecting the information discussed above, Behind the Book collects information that is not personally identifiable through use of our Internet servers. This information helps Behind the Book keep its website up and running. The information that Behind the Book collects in this way includes the type of browser and operating system that the visitor is using. Behind the Book also keeps track of the number of visits to the pages on our website. "Cookies" are pieces of data stored on a user's Internet browser or hard drive. Behind the Book may use cookies to track user visits, make the website easy to navigate and to deliver content specific to the user.
