Benjy Blatman

Elementary Educator (ret.), STEM Specialist
NYC Department of Education

Benjy has recently retired from his career as an Elementary Educator. He taught with the New York City Department of Education for 38 years in School District 5, Harlem.

He was a classroom teacher during the beginning and end of his career; during the majority of his tenure, he was a science teacher, STEM Specialist, and STEM Teacher Trainer. His STEM work in District 5 led him to work, city-wide, with the Department of Education creating the NYC Science Scope and Sequence.

He also worked with the New York State Department of Education on their current Science Standards based on The Next Generation Science Standards. As part of this city-wide team, he provided training to other educators and, through the United Federation of Teachers, parents.

Aside from teaching and curriculum development, he was a long-time union activist providing several functions within the United Federation of Teachers.
