Volunteers and Partners

Behind the Book volunteers have assisted with a range of tasks including database management and web development. Currently, voluteers are working to help update the website and organize school visit archive materials.

In addition, we work with several partners and benefit as well from in-kind services:

The Society of Illustrators, the national professional organization for illustrators, gives us direct access to their members for participation in Behind the Book programs and has pledged to donate books submitted to its annual exhibition, The Original Art, to PS 274 in Bushwick. In December 2004, on our behalf, it donated 136 new hardcover children's illustrated books to the school's library.

Materials for the Arts, a program of the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of New York, donates arts materials for workshops.

Brownstone Books in Bedford-Stuyvesant displays work that students from CS 21 complete in Behind the Book programs. We also receive considerable in-kind services from Behind the Book supporters who contribute nonprofit accounting, computer, graphic design, photography, and web site development and management expertise.
