In July 2009, Behind the Book inaugurated its law firm reading series with an event hosted by Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, at which Joshua Ferris read from his National Book Award nominated novel, Then We Came to the End. During the event, Ferris read excerpts from the novel, which is a humorous and poignant portrayal of the relationships between employees of a Chicago ad agency that experiences layoffs at the end of the nineties internet boom. Ferris also participated in a question and answer session and provided each attendee with an autographed copy of his book during an informal wine and cheese reception.
“Our book reading event with Joshua Ferris and Behind the Book was a huge success! Our summer associate class loved meeting a young author, hearing about his writing, and supporting a worthy organization. We hope to plan a similar event for next summer.”
